REP TRAINING RULES

  • The coach needs to strike a balance at training between discipline, commitment and enjoyment for everybody (including the coach).
    • The training session is for the registered players in the team only. No other players are permitted to participate or even remain in the court area unless actually required by the coach.
    • Players are required to arrive on time. If a player arrives late, he or she should know that they have to run at least two warm-up laps of the court before joining in the session.
    • Players who are consistently late to training or unprepared (eg unsuitable clothing/footwear, no water bottle) should be spoken with immediately by the coach and referred to the Head of Coaching if issues continue.
    • Players must be made to understand that training, like games, is a team activity so teamwork and positive reinforcement to other team members is required.
    • Players who have poor attitude, behaviour, application, intensity and/or commitment should be spoken with immediately by the coach in an non-threatening manner and promptly referred to the Head of Coaching if issues continue.
    • If a player is identified as possibly having personal, family, social, mental health, drug/alcohol or similar issues that affect his or her individual or team performance, the coach needs to take this into account and immediately notify the appropriate club person (team manager, boys or girls lead coach, head of coaching).
    • Collingwood Basketball Association requires that an adult (apart from the coach) remains present for all junior training sessions.

The aim of any training session is to develop skills and teamwork. Each training session must incorporate one or more of these areas as a specific goal of the session:
• Passing and ball handling
• Shooting
• Footwork
• Team defence
• Individual defence
• Team offence
• Individual offence
• Transition from defence to offence and vice versa
